Strengthening Regional Public Health Collaboration

The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), led by Interim Director General Dr. Sia Wata Gamanor, visited the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) of Sierra Leone at its headquarters in Wilberforce, Freetown.

Executive Director Professor Foday Sahr welcomed the delegation, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in tackling shared health challenges across the Mano River region.

During the engagement, Deputy Executive Director Alhaji Dr. Mohamed Alex Vandi delivered a comprehensive presentation on NPHA’s mandate, achievements, and ongoing reforms. He highlighted the agency’s role in unifying surveillance, laboratory services, and emergency response under one science-driven institution while stressing the importance of strengthening points of entry and cross-border surveillance to protect both nations.

The visit underscored the deep ties between Sierra Leone and Liberia. For Liberia, collaboration means access to complementary expertise, expanded laboratory networks, and joint training opportunities. For Sierra Leone, partnership with NPHIL reinforces regional solidarity and supports its vision of becoming a center of excellence in public health.

Together, both countries are building a stronger, united front against epidemics and health threats, ensuring resilience and progress for the entire Mano River basin.
